Architect & Designer Flow

Mark Douglass Design creates sculptural lighting pieces that combine glass artistry, architectural design, and technical precision.

To work efficiently with architects, designers, and large-scale projects, this document outlines a structured workflow that supports both creative development and technical reliability.

The system ensures that lighting designs move clearly from concept through specification, manufacturing, and installation.

Lighting Request Brief

Every custom lighting piece begins with a simple conversation.

Our Lighting Brief is a short, guided form that helps us understand the space, the mood, and the technical conditions of your project. It allows architects and designers to quickly share the key information needed to begin developing a custom lighting piece.

The process is designed to be fast, clear and collaborative — capturing the essentials while leaving room for creative exploration.

• the project and architectural context
• the atmosphere or lighting concept you have in mind
• ceiling heights and installation conditions
• glass colours or material preferences
• light quality and colour temperature
• dimming and control systems
• technical or electrical requirements
• installation considerations
• project scale and budget guidance

From there, we begin translating the brief into a lighting concept that integrates seamlessly with the architecture.

Tell us a little about your project and the lighting you’d like to create.

This short brief helps our studio understand the architectural conditions, the atmosphere you're aiming to achieve, and the technical requirements for the space.

The form is designed to be simple and flexible — you can provide as much or as little detail as you have at this stage.

Once submitted, the studio will review the information and begin developing a lighting concept aligned with your project.

MDD supplies lighting fixtures in accordance with the approved design specification. Structural mounting, electrical installation, and compliance certification must be completed by the project builder and licensed electrician. Freight, manufacturing, and material costs may vary due to market conditions. Minor variations in handcrafted glass are inherent to the production process.
